Planning for Prom
Who is eligible to attend the Prom?

Homeschooled and PSEO Teens ages 14+ are welcome to attend!

Can my teen bring friends?

- Yes, we welcome it!
- All guests must also be registered and paid before the event begins.
- Friends must submit their own Registrations.
- Friends do not have to be homeschooled, but they must be the guest of an attending homeschooled teen.
- There is a limit of 3 non-homeschooled guests per homeschooled teen who has been Registered and Confirmed for Prom.

Can I attend with my teen?

- We are making every effort to provide the most secure event possible for all in attendance.
- Only Pre-Registered teens and Pre-Approved Chaperones will be allowed past the Prom Security/Check-In Area on JX Event Venue Floor 3 which is outside the main entrance to the Prom. There will be no exceptions.
- Parents/Guardians and Emergency Contacts for the night of Prom who are listed on the Registration Forms and who require contact with their Prom Attendees can request them at the Security/Check-In Area which is located at the JX Event Venue on Floor 3 outside the main entrance to the Prom. Security will summon the teens from the Ballroom.
- If you have any questions or extenuating circumstances, please contact Cindy Westrup at (612) 845-1816, Cindy@MNHomeschoolProm.com or Louisa Westrup at 612-272-3778.

What is the Dress Code?

Dress Code Explanation:

We want everyone to feel BEAUTIFUL and AMAZING in the dresses and outfits they choose to wear to Prom, and we do not want to "fashion police" people's outfit choices. However, our goal in hosting the Homeschool Prom is to help as many teens as possible to be able to attend Prom. So, we must have a Dress Code that encourages everyone to meet in the middle - at least for our event. We also must be fair and treat every Prom Attendee by the same standards. We hope you understand and will join us in this mission by choosing outfits that follow the Prom Dress Code.

At arrival time: This venue does not provide the space or privacy needed for outfit modifications, nor are we able to provide materials needed to bring outfits up to the Dress Code.

- So, if your attire does not pass the Dress Code, regretfully, you may have to leave the JX Event Venue until it does. Then you will be able to check into Prom.

- Friends are able to help each other to modify outfits, however we do not have space in the venue entry area for outfit modifications. So, you might be required to step outside the venue in order to help each other with your outfits. However, friends who have checked into Prom on Floor 3 cannot come back down to the entrance on Floor 1 or 2 to assist with outfit modifications, because they would have to leave the Prom to do so. It is against the Prom rules to leave Prom and then return after a teen has already checked in.

Have attire or outfit questions? Text us your questions or a photo of the attire: Cindy 612-845-1816 or Louisa 612-272-3778.

Dress Code Violations:  We put so much effort into planning the best Prom possible for you and for your friends, because we truly want everyone to attend the Prom, remain at the Prom for as long as they choose, and to have a wonderful time! We want everyone to feel confident, respected, and empowered! So please come prepared to pass the Dress Code Greeters, to enter the Prom, and to remain within the Dress Code all evening!

- Failure to follow the Dress Code will result in, first, a warning and, second, an expulsion from Prom.

Dresses:

- No 2-Piece Dresses.

- Hemline and Slits must be no higher than 3" above the knee measured from the top of the kneecap.

- No cleavage, bare midriffs, cutouts, or backs bare below the waist.

- Clothing must be fitted to ensure full coverage of bust and torso. Sides of the dress must be fully covered.

- Strapless dresses are allowed.

- No sheer fabric from underarms to 3" above the top of the kneecap. Sides of dresses must be covered with solid fabric, no sheer fabric.

- Please practice dancing in your dress to make sure everything stays in place. If not, pin it to your bra, add fabric or dress tape, add or tighten straps, wear a NIKIBIKI tank top (available on Amazon), wear longer shorts under dresses with wrap-around skirts and slits to pass the dress length requirement, wear a shawl all evening, etc.

- Strapless dresses look nice in pictures, but they do not always stay in place while dancing and playing party games.

- Please make sure your dress stays in place and meets the Dress Code, or please make changes. We want you to have fun and to be able to stay at Prom with your friends!

Suits, Tuxedos, or Dress Shirts with a Collar, Dress Pants:

- Must wear dress pants, a tie, and a belt. No khakis or casual pants. No shorts.

Shoes:

- Choose any clean shoes for your outfit. Changing into casual shoes is great for the dance.

- Shoes can be checked into the Coat/Bag Check.

- We recommend wearing shoes throughout the evening to avoid the risk of injury.

Etc.:

- The Dress Code will be enforced all evening.

- Dress Clothes must be worn all evening. Dress shirts must be worn during the dance.

- Coat and sweaters/shawls can be removed.

- No Face Paint.

Are dates required to attend?

- Couples or dates are not required; Attendees can enjoy the evening with friends and classmates!
- There will be no Grand March.

What should I bring to Prom?

- All your best friends!
- Cell phone
- Any medications you require or might require (Tylenol or Advil if you get headaches, Lactaid, necessary prescriptions, etc.). We cannot provide any medications.
- If you have medical supplies beyond medication, please contact Cindy Westrup at (612) 845-1816 or Cindy@MNHomeschoolProm.com to make special arrangements.
- Ear Plugs if you don't like loud music, etc.
- We will have personal care products and some wardrobe repair items in the restrooms and a sewing kit at the Record Keeping Table to be used during the Prom for wardrobe emergencies.

May I request accommodations (meals, seating, etc)?

- Absolutely! Please email Cindy at Cindy@MNHomeschoolProm.com by April 3rd to discuss how we can help with meal or other accommodations.
- The venue does have an elevator to Floor 3, and we can arrange wheelchair seating for best positioning with friends.

Are there discounts, transfers, or refunds available?

- We regret there is no reduced pricing available for Attendees who choose not to partake in any portion of the evening.
- There are no refunds, transfers, or exchanges of Registrations for any reason.
- If someone chooses to provide Registration fees for someone to attend either anonymously or not, we can assist with those requests.

Are walk-ins allowed?

- No walk-ins - NO EXCEPTIONS.
- All Attendees must be Registered, paid, and must receive an emailed Confirmation before the event begins.

Can I submit song requests?

- Please email any song requests to Cindy at Cindy@MNHomeschoolProm.com and submit by
April 3rd.
- We will not accept requests the night of Prom to avoid the risk of accidentally playing songs with inappropriate song lyrics.
- Not all requests will be played. We try to choose the best dance songs that receive the most requests.

What items are Prohibited?

- No bottles/cans are allowed past the Security/Check-In Area; they cannot be checked into the Coat/Bag Check. This includes bottles of water.

- No cigarettes, alcohol, vapes, carts, weapons, pocketknives, or illegal substances are allowed by JX Event Venue.

- No purses, backpacks, or bags are allowed inside the Prom. Larger purses, backpacks, and bags can be checked into the Coat/Bag Check. (See “How does the Coat/Bag check-in process work”)

- A very small clutch purse can be brought into the Prom for cell phones, etc. Clutch purses can be no larger than 7”x 3”.

- Mace and pepper spray will be put into a bag with the Attendee’s security wristband number on it and will be kept in the Coat/Bag Check until the owner leaves Prom for the night.

- If a prohibited item is discovered inside the Prom, the Attendee's Emergency Contact will be called, and the Attendee will be dismissed from Prom.

- If an Attendee needs a ride, they will wait with Security and will only be released to a Parent/Guardian or the Emergency Contact listed on the Registration Form.

-If you have any questions about items you might need to bring to Prom, please contact Cindy at 612-845-1816 or Cindy@MNHomeschoolProm.com. If your questions comes up right before or on Prom day, please call!

How does the Coat/Bag check-in process work? Where can we charge our cell phones?

What to check into the Coat/Bag Check:
- Coat/Bag Check is available for purses, backpacks, jackets, shoes, bags, etc.
- Plan to check any purse, backpack, or bag larger than 7"x3".
Coat/Bag Check Process:
- When you arrive for Prom at the JX Event Venue, on Floor 1 you will be greeted and cleared by the Dress Code Greeters.
- On Floor 2, you will receive your security wristband.
- Also on Floor 2, everyone with bags of any size or with any items to check into the Coat/Back Check will proceed to the bag check area. Bags are searched for the safety of everyone at the Prom.
- Prom Attendees with a purse/bag 7”x3” or smaller will have their bag checked, will be allowed to keep their bags with them, then they can proceed up the Grand Staircase to Floor 3 for Prom Check In.
- Prom Attendees with items to be checked into the Coat/Bag Check will move to the Chaperones who will check their items into the Coat/Bag Check by entering a description of their bags and/or items into an iPad, put the items into a plastic bag or hang them onto a hanger, and label the items with the Prom Attendee’s security wristband number.
Coat/Bag Check Availability:
* Special Note: Once your items are checked into the Coat/Bag Check, they will not be available again until after Dinner to allow time for the Coat/Bag Check to be moved upstairs and inside the Prom.
- After Dinner, the Coat/Bag Check will be available for the rest of the night inside the Prom in the rest room area.
- Using your security wristband number, your items can be checked out of the Coat/Bag Check, taken to the rest room, then returned to be checked back into the Coat/Bag Check.
- You may not take your larger purses, backpacks, or bags into the Ballroom, Dance, or Social/Game areas of the Prom. They must be checked back into the Coat/Bag Check when you are finished using them in the rest room.
- Shoes, jackets, sweaters, etc., can be taken into the Ballroom, Dance, or Social/Game areas of the Prom from the Coat/Bag Check.
During busy times, such as right after Dinner, you might have to wait in line to check items back into the Coat/Bag Check. To avoid standing in line, perhaps wait to check your items out until the after Dinner rush has ended.
Coat/Bag Check service will be available all evening.
* We cannot guarantee the safety and security of anyone or anything at all times during the Prom, but we will do our very best!
Charging Cell Phones:
Phones can be charged at the Record Keeping Table.

How does dinner seating work?

- Prom Attendees will have formal, assigned seating for Dinner to ensure dates, friends, and those traveling together are able to be seated at the same table.
- Everyone is asked to list dates and friends with whom they would like to be seated when they register for Prom.
- There are tables that seat 10 and 11, but you do not have to fill an entire table when you register for Prom.
- The Prom Committee will make every effort to seat friends together.
- Due to multiple friend requests, limitations of table sizes, and to accommodate dates into friend groups, we can’t always guarantee every person listed will be at your table. However, every Prom Attendee will be seated with someone they know.
- And remember, Dinner is only one part of the whole evening.
- A welcome and prayer will precede Dinner.
